There are certain makeup items I purposely avoid, that has nothing to do with the product itself, just some pre-conceived idea that it would not look good on me. Especially now that I’m so obsessed with keeping a youthful appearance; anything I think will make me look “auntie” gets a big cringe and talk-to-the-hand gesture from me.
Terracotta lipstick is one of those items. To start of, why would I want to look like a piece of construction material? Add long-lasting to it, and I picture my lips looking like cracked desert earth. Yes I know it’s weird and unfounded, but I’m fond of weirdness and half-truths sometimes
So when I was given an Estee Lauder Double Wear Lipstick in Stay Ginger, I have to say I wasn’t very excited by it. It’s a long-wearing lipcolour that looks terracotta, and quite thick in texture:
The outer packaging is quite luxe, though not as feminine as their Pure Colour lipsticks:
However, looking at the formula close up, it looks creamy rather than thick:
I’ve been told that good long-lasting lipstick should be poured straight into the case, leaving a flat or rounded top, rather than a pointy bullet like an average lipstick. Something to do with long-lasting lipstick formulas are softer, so cannot be poured into a bullet mould then placed into the casing. Sorry I can’t elaborate further, but in any case, the Estee Lauder Double Wear lipstick is directly poured into the casing, and is an indication that its formula should be good.
I was pleasantly surprised to find Stay Ginger swatched a lovely rose colour on my arm, and the same translated on my lips too:
The colour isn’t “auntie” at all! It’s a lovely sophisticated browny rose colour, which looked great against my complexion. It felt very comfortable on my lips, and did not dry them out at all. It’s not transfer-proof, which I don’t mind as it just fades over time rather than coming off in patches.
Overall, the colour remains on my lips a good 6 hours or so, and only needing re-application after meals. This is a great lipcolour for everyday, especially those constantly on-the-go and have little time to reapply lippy.
Estee Lauder Double Wear Lipstick retails AUD$45 and is available from Estee Lauder counters nation-wide.

Love this lipstick! its amazingly pigmented and not as drying as a lot of long lasting lipsticks. It stays on ALL day without budging. And if the lipstick is ‘somehow’ (i don’t know how ) removed, there is still a stain on your lips.

Christina: I don’t try a lot of long-lasting lipstick as they used to be so drying – I’m pleasantly surprised by the EL one! Now I want to try the other shades in the range
What a pretty colour. If I saw that lipstick without knowing the name, I would think it was ‘dusty rose’ or something!….it looks good for pale completions (yay)

Evelyn: I agree! It’s so much prettier than “Ginger”!
I think this pink is very gorgeous. It just goes to show that colours we might be a little scared of can be absolutely beautiful. PS – You are doing a great job at keeping up your youthful appearance X

Ingrid: When it comes to lipstick swatching is just so important heh? I was thinking of giving this lippy to my mum, but now I’m gonna take it with me to Taiwan
You are so funny! Estee Lauder does have an auntiness about it but they have very good products. It is a lovely colour on you…
Beauty Box: Haha yes I love Estee Lauder but for some reason I always think “auntie” – just me being silly
