Since trying the SkinFood cactus BB cream, I was very keen to try more from them. The Mushroom BB Cream is a triple function BB cream that SkinFood claims to “contain skin-friendly aloe & mushroom extract, adenosine and arbutin that helps to improve the appearance of fine lines and promotes a brighter, more radiant complexion with UV protection properties”.
I’ll be reviewing all BB Creams on the following criteria:
- Packaging
- Coverage
- Dry to touch finish
- Natural skin feel
- Fragrance
- Longevity
Packaging: 4.5/5
Thank goodness the Mushroom BB Cream doesn’t come with a sponge applicator! It’s in my favourite form: flat tube with screw on cap, and flat nozzle. It also contains 50g of product which is quite generous.
The tube is a lovely earthy beige colour with matte finish, and the labels and outer cap is printed/embossed/pearlised recycle paper. I love the look of it – although have read that the paper can disintegrate after coming in contact with water, so is not as travel-friendly as regular printed tubes.
Coverage: 4.5/5
The texture of the BB cream is a gel-cream, so its coverage is slightly less than the cactus BB cream and the Missha M Signature Real Complete BB Cream, but is still pretty high. It also does not sink into lines which is awesome – and you can see how flawless my hand is!
I take 0.5 point off as for some reason, no matter how I apply it, it’s not buildable. So a concealer is a must when using this – which I need for the redness under my eyes, along my nose bridge, and either sides of my nostrils.
Dry-to-touch finish: 5/5
Even though the SkinFood Mushroom BB Cream doesn’t have a powdery finish like the Vichy one, it completely melts into the skin, leaving no stickiness. I can get away with not using a powder except for my eye area (but that’s to help my eye makeup application).
Natural skin feel: 5/5
Love, love LOVE how natural this BB Cream is! As it melts into the skin and that it’s not buildable, this BB cream is foolproof. No matter how heavy handed you are, it will not give you a mask face.
The colour seem a bit pink when first applied but quickly adapts to the natural skin tone. It also has a semi-dewy finish which is perfection in achieving the my-skin-but-better result.
In addition, this BB cream comes in 2 shades (stated in the little circle on back of back, see the upper right-hand pic under packaging). So if you’re a little darker, pick #2 as oppose to #1.
Fragrance: 4.5/5
I don’t know how SkinFood does it, but there is no sunscreen smell at all with either of the two BB Cream I’ve tried. The Mushroom BB Cream also has a botanical smell. But rather than a grassy/floral smell, it’s a woody, medicinal smell. It’s rather hard to describe… kinda like the inside of a wet tree branch when you snap it in half.
I quite like the smell as I’m mad for anything botanical, and I happen to like Chinese medicine. But it can be unpleasant to some – especially when the scent does not fade.
Longevity: 4/5
This is probably as good as it can get, when it comes to longevity on my oily face. The SkinFood Mushroom BB Cream actually lasts a good 6 hours on my face, which is rather incredible considering it still has a somewhat dewy finish.
Even better, even after blotting, there is still enough BB Cream left on my face which I can re-distribute by rubbing it around.
TOTAL SCORE: 27.5 OUT OF 30
The SkinFood Mushroom Multi Care BB Cream SPF PA+ is without a doubt, my favourite BB Cream so far. It’s easy to apply, looks great, lasts a long time and does not break me out. I think it’ll suit all skin types too. And just another little tip: for a porcelain flawless finish, use a silicon base primer underneath – hello doll face!!
SkinFood Mushroom Multi Care BB Cream SPF PA+ is available in 2 shades, normall retails for US$34.40 but is on special for US$18.60 on Sasa.com – so get it NOW!!!

Tine: Of course – will bring all my BB’s
Ooh great post! Bring it to work so I can test the smell out haha but I may as well try it since it’s on sale! Guess I’ll be doing a Sasa order tomorrow!
Niva: No problem – I heard quite of few people hate the smell, but I really don’t see the big deal. It smells nice to me??
Wow it’s so cheap now, seems like I need to put it on my shopping list

Michelle: I know – was pleasantly shocked when I looked it up! Perfect time to buy and stockpile!!!
I’ve been eying this product for some time, I’m so happy that you reviewed it! I’ve been wanting to try BB creams but I’ve heard so many are scams now. Thank you for doing this series

Claire: The definition of BB Creams are becoming rather ambiguous now, so there are a few out there that can’t really be considered BB Creams. Also like any makeup items, different things would suit different people. But I’ve loved SkinFood BB Creams and a lot of other bloggers do too, so I reckon it’s a good bet!
Wow this sounds great, I use the Skin Food Aloe Sun BB Cream and I love it so I’m sure I’ll like more from the Skin Food range.

Megan: I’ve heard great things about the Aloe BB Cream too! Need to check that out next
Great review, thank you for introducing this BB cream! I might pick it up next time. By the way, do you any good BB cream for tanner skin? My skin is pretty fair now in the winter, but spring is coming up and I still want to something with a darker shade
Helen: This is my favourite BB Cream so far so definitely worth getting, especially when Sasa has a special on it! For tanner skin, look for a BB that offers more than 1 shade – which the SkinFood Mushroom offers and so does Missha in their Signature Real Complete BB (review here). I think this one would be a better choice, as it has the warmest tone out of all the BB Creams I’ve tried (a lot of BB Creams have a more pinky tone, which is more suitable for fair complexions).
Update: Just bought this BB Cream from sasa. LOVING it so far. Might try with a primer underneath it the next time I have it on. First day today. My skin didn’t look oily like it does when I use this other one I’ve been using.

Norlin: I’ve tried it with a primer underneath and it gives a flawless finish! It’s great – not only does it suit oily skin but it’s the only one that doesn’t have a white/grey undertone!
I am asian with a yellow tan skin and I tried this bb cream the #2 shade and it appears look pink-greyish on my fask, so I want to know if the #1 one is good for tan skin too?
Tira Boutique: I wouldn’t suggest the SkinFood Mushroom BB in #1 – as it is lighter so may seem even more grey on you. Za BB Cream is the only one that is warmer in tone, but is only available in one shade. Perhaps try a Maybelline one? I’ve not tried them but they seem to be darker.
