Getting Naughty with Black Honey – Clinique Almost Lipstick SPF15

On the eve of Valentine’s Day I have something to confess… I’ve strayed.  You may have read, only a little over 2 months ago, my declaration of love for Clinique Chubby Sticks.  But monogamy is not my beauty strength, and I find my lips wandering to something else… and oh my is it a luscious one!

Getting Naughty with Black Honey Clinique Almost Lipstick SPF15Introducing Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey.  As Clinique says, this is a “Glossy, sheer, non-staining lip colour.  Soothing to the lips. Lips feel moist with a shiny finish.”

Packaged in a slick sliver casing, Clinique has set my heart aflutter again with Almost Lipstick.  The colour may look dark, but as I apply it onto my lips, it literally melts into a viscous but non-sticky stain.

Getting Naughty with Black Honey Clinique Almost Lipstick SPF15

This colour would be flattering on anyone, as it can create either a very sheer wash of colour, or built up to a warmer autumn-y tone.  I like it somewhere in the middle, so I run it across my lips 3-4 times, and my lips look as if I’ve bitten into a juicy blood plum.

Getting Naughty with Black Honey Clinique Almost Lipstick SPF15

My lips feel soft and moisturised, and very much like I’ve smeared on a little honey on them.  I still love my chubby sticks, but this just feels so damn sexy!!  Major LUST!!!

Clinique Almost Lipstick SPF15 Black Honey retails for AUD$36 and is available from David Jones, Myer, Terry White and selected independent pharmacies and also via the Clinique website http://www.clinique.com.au

Every now and then, a magazine article is so interesting that it must be shared.  This is from the 2011 Spring Edition of Taiwanese beauty magazine, Queen (女人我最大), which for some reason I totally missed until recently re-reading the issue.

Thank you 2011

 Thank you 2011

Is it just me, or is every year going by quicker and quicker?  This year felt like it flew by, but I have to say, it’s been one of the most rewarding and enjoyable years I’ve had.  Here are my favourite and most memorable things from 2011:

1.  I began my career in Marketing

It was around Xmas last year when I made the transition from sales to marketing, and I couldn’t be happier.  I love my job and I’m so thankful for the amazing things I’ve been able to do because of it – and thank you for those who have supported the brand and the products I’ve launched into the market this year.

2.  I began blogging

Through my new job, I got to know the wonderful Beauty Bloggers around Australia, and some (you know who you are) gave me the kick up the proverbial to start my own beauty blog just over 6 months ago.

I have thoroughly enjoyed blogging: from doing 1-2 posts a week to now 3-4 (still sporadic I know), giving my blog the makeover it needed, braving FOTD, to trying my hand at things I’ve never done like nail art - I’ve learnt so much every step of the way. Thank you to my wonderful readers who have given me so much encouragement :’)

 Thank you 2011

3.  Attending the inaugural ABBW as both a blogger and PR

I was lucky enough to have been invited to attend ABBW as one of the bloggers even before I started blogging.  But I am so glad that I ended up blogging prior to the event, as it gave me so much more appreciation for all the events and topics of discussion.  As nerve-wrecking as it was, I also enjoyed representing my brand at the ABBW.  Thank you The Plastic Diaries and You’ve Got Nail for the invitation, and all the attending beauty bloggers for the help and support for the Masterclass.

4.  Being a part of a sorority (MBBE)

Where would I be without the wonderful #MBBE?  They are bunch of crazy talented, passionate gals who are caring and supportive of each other.  Every time we get together there would be loads of laughter, food and obsessive beauty talk.  Thank you for welcoming me into the group.

 Thank you 2011

5.  Discovering new products

Not so good for my wallet or tiny apartment, but I loved trying so many products that I would have never tried before!  I LOVE Clinique Chubby Sticks, solved my hair woes, and ventured into the world of OPI.  Thanks to my job and being a blogger – I now live and breath beauty every moment, everyday (Amen).

 Thank you 2011

All in all, I had a fabulous 2011.  So fabulous, that what I want to do in 2012 is MORE of what I’ve done this year – more blogging, and more beauty marketing!  I am a big believer that passion is key to happiness, and I want to keep that passion aflame by challenging myself to do better.

Clinique Chubby Sticks – you complete me

If you’ve read my previous post on Clinique Chubby Stick Woopin’ Melon you’d know my obsession with it.  And what’s more exciting than 1 Chubby Stick?  Why it’s FOUR CHUBBY STICKS!!!

In fact, I’m so excited I can hardly contain myself as I’m writing this post.  And considering I’ve just had the oddest experience when I went out for a coffee (more on that tomorrow), that’s pretty damn exciting.

The 4 shades I have to show off are: Mega Melon, Whole Lotta Honey, Woppin’ Watermelon and Chunky Cherry.

Clinique Chubby Sticks you complete me Clinique Chubby Sticks you complete me

Clinique Chubby Sticks you complete meMega Melon

Clinique Chubby Sticks you complete meA browny beige with a bit of terracotta.  This would probably work quite well on olive skin, but I have to admit I don’t love it on me.  Brick colour makes me feel old icon sad Clinique Chubby Sticks you complete me

Whole Lotta Honey

Clinique Chubby Sticks you complete meNow this brown beige I do LOVE!!  The slightest mauve in it picks up the complexion, and for me definitely a my-lips-but-better colour.

Woppin’ Watermelon

Clinique Chubby Sticks you complete me

I’ve done another swatch so all the pics are done in the same light.  This time I’ve applied it with a lighter hand – and you can see it still makes my normally brown lips a pretty pink colour.

Chunky Cherry

Clinique Chubby Sticks you complete meYet another winner.  A rose colour that makes the lips look ultra enticing – I couldn’t help making kissy faces in the mirror when I had this on.  Totally loving myself sick with this colour! icon biggrin Clinique Chubby Sticks you complete me

Clinique Chubby Stick retails for AUD$35, and if you purchase 3 they put them in this adorable box (soooo cute!!!!)

Clinique Chubby Sticks you complete meMy 3 rec’s from the range are definitely Whole Lotta Honey, Woppin’ Watermelon and Chunky Cherry.  Ah Clinique Chubby Sticks… you complete me.

My Sorority Sisters – Melbourne Beauty Blogger Event (MBBE)

It’s such a happy coincidence that I’m writing this post today, when it’s the 6 month anniversary of this blog!  Yippee!  I know that’s only a little milestone, but considering it was only 10 months ago when I was still thinking, “I can never start a beauty blog”, please allow me to indulge myself in some self-love (the pat on the back kind, in case your mind was in the gutter) icon biggrin My Sorority Sisters Melbourne Beauty Blogger Event (MBBE)

To quote Amy, the adorable gal behind Things I Love, the MBBE is like a sorority.  They have welcomed me into the group when I wasn’t even a beauty blogger yet, and now I consider them as my close friends integral in my life.

It was beyond awesome that I was invited to the 2011 Melbourne Beauty Blogger Event – organised by Val of Ponikuta and held at Miss Fox on 12th November.

My Sorority Sisters Melbourne Beauty Blogger Event (MBBE)Miss Fox is a gorgeous salon in Melbourne CBD that offers a range of cosmetic, therapeutic and grooming services, great beauty products and event venue hire.  They generously treated us MBBE gals to super yummy Pimms, cupcakes, luxury hand massages, manicures and makeovers.  It was such an indulgent experience and I have already enquired about holding a hen’s night for a soon-to-be married girlfriend.

My Sorority Sisters Melbourne Beauty Blogger Event (MBBE)After the pampering and a whole lot of chattering (and we are a talkative bunch!), we had the pleasure of listening to Kate Morris, the founder of Adore Beauty, about her journey as an entrepreneur who changed the landscape of the Australian beauty retail business.  I have been a customer of Adore Beauty for many years, not just for the great array of brands but also their beauty services, online forum and product reviews.

The best thing is that Kate is that she is a makeup junkie who has a true passion for beauty, and the drive to make her dreams a reality.  A serious case of girl crush here?  You betcha!

My Sorority Sisters Melbourne Beauty Blogger Event (MBBE)Kate was so lovely she stayed for the entire event, and presented to us the prizes for the raffle draw and beauty quiz (I won an Illamasqua pack yay!)

My Sorority Sisters Melbourne Beauty Blogger Event (MBBE)We shared in the delight that was Jacie’s win of Beauty Directory Star Beauty Writer (Online) of the Year Award for 2011 – presented by Passion Pop Lover AKA Kimmi of The Plastic Diaries.

My Sorority Sisters Melbourne Beauty Blogger Event (MBBE)In case you haven’t realised my affection for the MBBE bunch, I have to declare that my favourite part of the event was the company – these ladies are inspiring, smart, loving and beautiful.  We laughed so much together and will continue to support each other through all our endeavours – blogging and everything else icon smile My Sorority Sisters Melbourne Beauty Blogger Event (MBBE)

Review: Clinique Chubby Stick

 Review: Clinique Chubby Stick

As a makeup addict I have something shocking to admit: lip colours don’t excite me much. As long as the texture isn’t ‘draggy’ or dry, and the colour ok, I’ll be happy to wear it. Gloss vs lipstick?  I don’t even care enough to enter into that debate, just what ever I find in my bag will do.

One thing I have been looking for though, is a lip colour that will make my lips candy pink, without making me look like one of the Playboy bunnies.

So I was shocked to my core to find a lip colour that has achieved both: excite me AND make my lips pink – Clinique Chubby Stick.

 Review: Clinique Chubby Stick

I have the shade Woppin’ Melon which I have mentioned in 2 FOTD posts already, so I’ll just summarise my opinions:

  • Lightweight and moisturising
  • Shows up true pink even on brown lips
  • I wouldn’t marry it, I would keep it as a dirty little mistress I love it so much
 Review: Clinique Chubby Stick

 Review: Clinique Chubby Stick

Woppin’ Melon

The only negative I feel is that as the formula is so light yet pigmented, it accentuates the creases on my lips.

But never fear!  I topped the colour up with a swipe of Face of Australia Divine Shine Lip Lacquer in Morning Mist, which is a colour I love but cannot get to show on my lips.

 Review: Clinique Chubby Stick

And magic – the light shimmer blurs the creases, and I have cotton candy on my lips icon smile Review: Clinique Chubby Stick

FOTD – Doll Eyes

I know my last FOTD post was on monolids (see here), but seeing Lancôme’s latest campaign on their new Hypnôse Doll Eyes mascara has me inspired in another direction. And hey, isn’t part of the allure in makeup the ability to transform oneself?

Before you ask the question – I do have true monolids.  But the process of ageing has made my eyelids more saggy, so now I find strip eyelashes to have the ability to prop my eyelids up and create the creases of open double lids.

Eyes

  • GEO Bambi Chocolate circle lenses
  • Solone Magic Waterproof eye pencil black – unbelievable pencil.  Glides on easy, dries to gloss finish and same great staying power as a gel eyeliner.  Line the top lashline with a slight extended wing, and thin line in both the top & bottom inner eye rims.
  • Face of Australia Opulent Eyes – an old limited edition eyeshadow palette.  I used a terracotta colour over the entire socket and a dark suede brown colour over the eyeliner to soften the line.
  • Face of Australia Liquid Eyeliner Black - used to enhance the wings extended 0.5cm over the outer corners of the top lash line.
  • Undisclosed mascara – can’t wait to launch this as this has now become my go-to mascara.
  • Princess Lee fake eyelashes No. 7 Bold – slightly denser than no. 7 which is the best selling variant in the Princess Lee range.  But the length is still natural.

Lips

  • Clinique Chubby Stick Woppin’ Watermelon - I whisper sweet nothings to this chubby stick whenever I see it, then kiss it all over after I’ve used it.  The word LOVE is not dirty enough to express the adoration I feel for it icon biggrin FOTD Doll Eyes

FOTD – Muted Day Look

Today I had lunch with Ponikuta, and had an awesome afternoon filled with good food, trashy celebrity gossip, and LOTS of beauty talk.  We also went for a stroll in Mecca Maxima and other beauty stores – but had enough self control to only look and not buy (this is RARE, but a pleasant relief for my credit card).

I was planning to break into my Lunasol eyeshadow palette for the occasion, but alas woke up to a gloomy Melbourne day which is unsuitable for swatching.  So instead I did a FOTD of my usual get-up: this is the makeup look that I usually do for work and weekend brunches; as it is understated, flattering to almost everyone, and quick to do.

 FOTD Muted Day Look

I am a huge fan of the Korean makeup look – thick-ish brows, defined eyes, luminous skin (ie. invisible foundation) and natural pink lips.  The advantage with this look is that if during the day I feel like a dramatic twist, I can simply put on a brighter lipstick without having to worry about it clashing with the rest of my face or looking like a drag queen.

Face

  • Nutox Oxyfusion Advanced Serum Concentrate
  • Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Mousse Water Base SPF 50+
  • 1028 Visual Therapy Naturally Fair Foundation
  • Face of Australia Stick FoundationIvory as concealer under my eyes, and Beige as concealer for residual pimple mark on my chin
  • Face of Australia Translucent Loose Powder
  • Catwalk Blusher Gossip (pale candy pink)

The first 3 products are from my Malaysia/Taiwan haul (see here) which are working their way to HG status – just give me a few more days with them for the reviews.

Brows

  • Face of Australia Eye Definer Brown – I have such sparse brows I need to define them with a pencil first.
  • Laura Mercier eyeshadowsCoffee Ground, a dark chocolate colour to fill in my brows esp at the outer ends (where the brows should be the darkest); Cafe Au Lait, a mushroom colour to soften the pencil line across the entire brows; and Fresco, a medium beige colour to soften the inner ends of the brows and to contour the nose and eye sockets.

Eyes

  • Face of Australia Liquid Eyeliner Black – the most easy to use liquid eyeliner, the right blackness for everyday or night use, smudge proof yet easy to remove.  I do a line along my upper lash lines with a little flick that extends 0.5cm over the outer corners of the eyes.  I also line the very inner corners of my eyes to balance out the extended flick (otherwise my eyes would seem too wide-set).
  • Face of Australia Eye Definer Brown - applied lightly along the lower lash line.  I find that eye makeup looks ‘incomplete’ if only the top lash line is lined – so I always line the bottom lash line, even just with a very light wash of brown.
  • Lancome eyeshadow – I don’t know the shade name as it’s a very old limited edition eyeshadow that I still hang on to. It’s a dark olive/grey shadow with just the right amount of shimmer that is buildable.  I dab a small amount onto the middle part of the eyelids and blend it into the sockets.
  • Undisclosed Mascara – and that’s all I can say at this point, will update when it’s launched.

Lips

  • Clinique Chubby Stick Woppin’ Watermelon – O.M.GEEE & AWESOMESAUCE big time!  There have been plenty of blog post on this so I may not swatch it.  But I have to say this: for a person with naturally brown lip colour like myself I am absolutely amazed that this is able to give me the pink coloured lips I’ve always wanted, yet feels light AND moisturising on my lips.  It is pure genius, GENIUS!!!

If you’re a makeup novice – I highly recommend this look as a starting point.  From hereon you can then build on either the eyes or the lips – stay tune for more FOTD.
