Illamasqua Intense Lip Gloss Bella Donna

It’s been quite some time since I’ve worn lip glosses – as much as I like the high shine look, I just hate how sticky lip glosses are, and need constant re-application.  However I couldn’t resist a hot pink gloss, particularly when it’s by Illamasqua.

The packaging is very simple, but handbag friendly.

I really like the tip though – small so it can navigate the edges of the lips easily, so no need for lip liner.

High shine and pigment rich, Illamasqua Intense Lip Gloss is more like a liquid lipstick.

As the pigment is so intense, only a small layer is required.  For that reason it’s not as sticky as a regular lipgloss, and lasts a lot longer too.

Illamasqua Nail Enamel in Stagnate

Hi peeps!  Sorry it’s been a while… with only a couple more weeks to go until the big move, things are getting hectic, and I still have a lot to do eek!  I’ve actually been super organised and took a whole bunch of pictures and swatches, but my brain is so pre-occupied that I can’t get the words out icon razz Illamasqua Nail Enamel in Stagnate

Anyhoo onto beauty, today’s short and sweet post (you’ll probably see a few of them coming up) is on Illamasqua Nail Enamel in Stagnate.

 Illamasqua Nail Enamel in Stagnate

 Illamasqua Nail Enamel in Stagnate

This is a beautiful grey mauve nail polish.  In a stylish rectangle bottle, which I love cos it’s easy to store and space efficient.

 Illamasqua Nail Enamel in Stagnate

It contains a straight brush that is quite skinny so it’s easy to manoeuvre.  It applies super smooth, as the formula is just so beautiful.  It’s just the right consistency: creamy enough to get great streak-free coverage, but not too thick that it’s gluggy.

Drying time is quite fast, I can get 2 coats on and dried within 20 minutes.  It also has great lasting power – even with my constant packing and moving, it lasted 4 days without chipping – that’s amazing!

 Illamasqua Nail Enamel in Stagnate

The colour is a great neutral tone for work.  It’s understated but still chic – in fact, I like it heaps better than OPI’s You Don’t Know Jacques (swatched here), which looks too dark and too brown on me.

Illamasqua Nail Enamel Stagnate retails AUD$34 and is available in selected Myer stores.

FOTD – My Illamasqua Alter Ego

Illamasqua is a cult British beauty brand known for their theatrical colour collections and brand images.  With the tagline “Make-up for You Alter Ego”, Illamasqua’s mission is to provide high-performance, professional make-up to anyone who wants to self-express and accentuate their look beyond the norm.  Never before has a brand been so daring to go so far out of what is considered the “norm” in makeup, and I find it so inspirational.

 FOTD My Illamasqua Alter Ego

I was really excited to have won an Illamasqua goodie bag at the MBBE, and finally broke into them today for a long overdue FOTD icon razz FOTD My Illamasqua Alter Ego

 FOTD My Illamasqua Alter Ego

This is a really simple FOTD – all the drama deriving from the fabulous Illamasqua products which have intense pigments, and apply easily.

Products used:

 FOTD My Illamasqua Alter Ego

Clowise from top left: Medium Pencil in Elate; Lipstick in Kontrol; False Eyelashes in Grandeur; Cream Pigments in Bedaub

For dramatic FOTDs, it’s best to start with the strongest element, which in this case is the dark purple lippy (Lipstick in Kontrol).  With dark lipcolours, make your lip shape a bit more rounded – as dark colours can make lips appear thinner, making them round will retain the pouty shape.

I then apply the Cream Pigment in Bedaub with an eyeshadow brush.  The Illamasqua cream pigment is so smooth and buildable – simply by applying the pigment from lashline upwards, and layering on more pigments in the socket, a gradient effect can be easily achieved.

After applying the False Eye Lashes in Grandeur (which by the way, is a shape that I’ve always wanted to try, and how awesome does it look!!?), and Medium Pencil in Elate on the lower lashline, I add the other elements in – one at a time.  Add in only what seems to be missing, and use a light hand.  With the lips and eyes already such strong focal points – another strong element could throw out the entire balance of the look.

 FOTD My Illamasqua Alter Ego

So I simply added slight contour on the nose, terracotta blush, and black eyeshadow on the outer lash line.  It’s dramatic but can easily be toned down for a night out.  But after playing with Illamasqua products, my alter ego is dying to go out on the town!

Illamasqua is available in selected Myer stores.

My Sorority Sisters – Melbourne Beauty Blogger Event (MBBE)

It’s such a happy coincidence that I’m writing this post today, when it’s the 6 month anniversary of this blog!  Yippee!  I know that’s only a little milestone, but considering it was only 10 months ago when I was still thinking, “I can never start a beauty blog”, please allow me to indulge myself in some self-love (the pat on the back kind, in case your mind was in the gutter) icon biggrin My Sorority Sisters Melbourne Beauty Blogger Event (MBBE)

To quote Amy, the adorable gal behind Things I Love, the MBBE is like a sorority.  They have welcomed me into the group when I wasn’t even a beauty blogger yet, and now I consider them as my close friends integral in my life.

It was beyond awesome that I was invited to the 2011 Melbourne Beauty Blogger Event – organised by Val of Ponikuta and held at Miss Fox on 12th November.

My Sorority Sisters Melbourne Beauty Blogger Event (MBBE)Miss Fox is a gorgeous salon in Melbourne CBD that offers a range of cosmetic, therapeutic and grooming services, great beauty products and event venue hire.  They generously treated us MBBE gals to super yummy Pimms, cupcakes, luxury hand massages, manicures and makeovers.  It was such an indulgent experience and I have already enquired about holding a hen’s night for a soon-to-be married girlfriend.

My Sorority Sisters Melbourne Beauty Blogger Event (MBBE)After the pampering and a whole lot of chattering (and we are a talkative bunch!), we had the pleasure of listening to Kate Morris, the founder of Adore Beauty, about her journey as an entrepreneur who changed the landscape of the Australian beauty retail business.  I have been a customer of Adore Beauty for many years, not just for the great array of brands but also their beauty services, online forum and product reviews.

The best thing is that Kate is that she is a makeup junkie who has a true passion for beauty, and the drive to make her dreams a reality.  A serious case of girl crush here?  You betcha!

My Sorority Sisters Melbourne Beauty Blogger Event (MBBE)Kate was so lovely she stayed for the entire event, and presented to us the prizes for the raffle draw and beauty quiz (I won an Illamasqua pack yay!)

My Sorority Sisters Melbourne Beauty Blogger Event (MBBE)We shared in the delight that was Jacie’s win of Beauty Directory Star Beauty Writer (Online) of the Year Award for 2011 – presented by Passion Pop Lover AKA Kimmi of The Plastic Diaries.

My Sorority Sisters Melbourne Beauty Blogger Event (MBBE)In case you haven’t realised my affection for the MBBE bunch, I have to declare that my favourite part of the event was the company – these ladies are inspiring, smart, loving and beautiful.  We laughed so much together and will continue to support each other through all our endeavours – blogging and everything else icon smile My Sorority Sisters Melbourne Beauty Blogger Event (MBBE)
