Taiwanese Beauty Magazine Queen 女人我最大 Autumn 2011 Edition – Part 2

So yesterday I gave you a brief intro and a taster post of the Taiwanese beauty magazine, Queen 女人我最大 (see here).  Today I shall take you through the rest of the content, and you’ll see why this is my favourite beauty magazine of all time.

The magazine pretty much follow the same template each season, starting with editor and contributing experts’ note, feature on the cover girl (with Ella from S.H.E. in the current season), makeup, skincare, hair, body & lifestyle and fashion.

Makeup

This of course, is my favourite part of the magazine.  Since it’s a quarterly magazine, each issue features gorgeous looks inspired by the season and the latest products.  I am totally in love with a couple of the looks they’ve come up with in this issue.

Taiwanese Beauty Magazine Queen 女人我最大 Autumn 2011 Edition Part 2I love the step-by-step guide, even though I believe these are sponsored since each page focuses on 1 product, but it’s great for picking up some application tips.

Taiwanese Beauty Magazine Queen 女人我最大 Autumn 2011 Edition Part 2There is also a great piece on how to apply makeup with your hands/fingers in this issue.

Skincare

The skincare section starts with an Expert’s Class dealing with a specific skincare concern.  This issue discusses the 5 causes of pigmentation, and how to eliminate them through cosmetic procedures, topical skincare and diet.

It then moves to the 6 focal products for Autumn skin.  Queen suggests: exfoliating toner, hydrating toner, anti-ageing serum, hydrating serum, cream moisturiser and radiance masks.  The key is in the application method, which is illustrated step-by-step on each page.

The skincare section finishes with an index on 10 botanical ingredients and why they’re good for your skin.

Hair

The hair section is a little lost on me.  It still includes step-by-step diagrams but I’m so hopeless with hair I can never follow them!  Nevertheless I enjoy looking at them for inspirations, hoping one day I’ll be able to master the skills.

You can transform your hair using various hair stylers and/or accessories.

Body & Lifestyle

The stable features in the Body section covers exercise and diet (including Q&A and recipes).

Taiwanese Beauty Magazine Queen 女人我最大 Autumn 2011 Edition Part 2 Taiwanese Beauty Magazine Queen 女人我最大 Autumn 2011 Edition Part 2I have to be honest, when Queen Magazine only had Body as a section it was my least favourite part of the magazine, but with the recent addition of Lifestyle feature within this section I now love it as much as the makeup/skincare sections!

The Lifestyle sub-section in this issue covers the how-to’s for taking a great picture.

Taiwanese Beauty Magazine Queen 女人我最大 Autumn 2011 Edition Part 2It then discusses the healing properties of essential oils (also with pictures to illustrate application methods), travel experiences (Paris, Croatia, Macau), beauty Q&A where they answer readers’ questions, shopping & eating at Tokyo, and relationship advice. All interesting reads and it shows how dedicated the Queen Magazine team is at making this magazine the best publication it can be!  Inspiration PLUS!!!

Fashion

Being a different culture, the fashion section in Queen Magazine can be hit and miss. Taiwan is mostly influenced by the Japanese/Korean fashions, with some injection of European trends.  So I read this section with a little reservation, and only pick out elements that are in my comfort zone.

However, I did enjoy this issue’s fashion section.  Firstly it featured 8 items that’ll take you through the entire Autumn season, and how to mix and match those items.

Other features in the Fashion section:

3 key trends for the upcoming Autumn season

  1. Retro prints – paisley top, geometric print bottoms
  2. Androgynous pieces – boyfriend blazer, suede ankle boots, pleated harem pants and unstructured shirts
  3. Rocker chic – metallic accessories, tribal tops with tassels, leather biker jackets and studded vests

4 icon bags

  1. Tote Bag
  2. Boston Bag
  3. Hobo Bag
  4. Briefcase

Phew!  And that is somewhat of a brief peek into the latest issue of Queen Magazine. Amazing isn’t it?

I have to also mention that, like all magazines, the Queen Magazine does contain adverts too.  But upon analysis I believe they have also been very calculated in the adverts they select – only 58 pages including inner front cover and back cover (and by one page I mean one side of a piece of paper) in an entire issue, limited to only beauty and fashion products.  The adverts are also mostly editorial in style and slotted into the relevant sections of the magazine so I don’t even mind reading them.

The Queen Magazine is TWD$169 and readily available in Taiwan.  For Oz residents unfortunately it cost a great deal more: $12 in Kinokuniya Sydney or around $20 in Asian newsagents.

I get mine through subscription by filling out and faxing the form below (Chinese readers only):

I will do briefer posts on the upcoming issue, probably mostly focused on the makeup/skincare sections.  But I would love your opinions! Which section(s) would you like me to cover?

Taiwanese Beauty Magazine Queen 女人我最大 Autumn 2011 Edition – Part 1

Queen Magazine is the self titled magazine version of a Taiwanese beauty show from cable channel TVBS.  I consider the show to be one of its kind as it covers all things related to beauty, with industry experts in a show and tell method so it really educates.

The magazine version is released every season.  And like the show, it covers makeup, skincare, hair, body & lifestyle, and fashion.  Whilst this seems no different to the beauty magazines we get in Australia, the details that Queen Magazine goes to is far beyond what we’re used to.

So much so, that I’ve had to break this post into 2 parts.  This is the current issue – Autumn 2011.  Please click the images for enlarged views.

The thing I like the best about Queen Magazine is that, even though it’s only 260 pages thick like the beauty magazines we get in Oz, they have managed to jam pack in there all the latest beauty news, how to’s and educational articles in each issue.

I’m going to leave the majority of the content for the next post, but want to share with you a relatively new feature in the Queen Magazine, which is the Season Launches.

The Season Launches covers all the major brands from Europe, America and Asia, and showcase their latest colour stories of the season.  It stretches over 6 pages and is great for the makeup enthusiasts, and since Australia is always at least 6 months behind (both in seasonality and trend), this is a great reference for what’s coming up for us!

I’m not going to lie, as a marketer/product manager I also use this as research for what to bring out for my brand by spotting commonalities of the type of products and colours across the different brands icon razz Taiwanese Beauty Magazine Queen 女人我最大 Autumn 2011 Edition Part 1

Without further ado, here is what we’ll need to get our grabby hands on… soon-ish: (Reminder: click on each pic for an enlarged view)

Stay tune for Part 2 of this post – you’ll sure be gob-smacked by what’s to come, as I take you through the rest of the magazine.
